Edwina Currie graduated from Oxford and London to teach Economics and Economic History, before becoming a conservative MP for South Derbyshire from1983 to 1997. She became Chairman of the Central Birmingham Health Authority, where she went on to become the Government Minister for the Department of Health from1986 – 1988 before resigning after warning on food safety in eggs. Pro-European, she has served as vice-chairman of the all-party European movement. Edwina is a well-known presenter and television personality, and in 1988 she was runner-up to Mrs. Thatcher in the Woman of the Year poll, in 1990 she was voted Speaker of the Year by the Association of Speakers’ Clubs and in1994. She speaks at venues of any size on subjects like her years with Margaret Thatcher, book writing, Britain in Europe, and a woman’s place.
