After Dinner Speakers: Edward Heath, The (Ray Davis) Kinks, Jo Guest

The Rt. Hon. Sir Edward Heath, MBE, MP served two terms as Prime Minister and was responsible for The United Kingdom joining The European Community in 1971. As Member of Parliament for Bexley and Sidcup, sir Edward served over 50 years in the House of Commons, holding numerous ministerial roles under Sir Winston Churchill, Sir Alec Douglas Home and Harold Macmillan prior to his succession as leader of the Conservative Party in 1970. Defeated as leader by the then unknown Margaret Thatcher, Heath has remained one of her most bitter critics, particularly over her isolationist views of Europe. An Ocean racing sailor, who has represented his country in the Admirals Cup, Sir Edward has uniquely become more respected and regarded when away from governmental power. A true world leader of the 20th Century Sir Edward Heath offers a unique perspective on World and Domestic political history.
